A woman visiting the US has expressed her shock after seeing ‘too many American flags’ displayed.
Taking to TikTok, the Australian woman named Mia shared a video of herself walking down a suburban street while commenting on the number of flags.
“I’m just gonna say it… there are too many American flags,” she said. “They’re on houses, they’re on cars… saw them on couch cushions.”
Mia went on and compared how the US and other nations differ when it comes to displaying flags.
“You’re the only country that I know that does this,” she expressed. “The only time I’ve seen an Australian flag is on the (Sydney) Harbor Bridge… (I) could not tell you what it looks like. I know it’s, like, blue and it’s got some stars on it. I think I could draw the American flag from memory.
“I think I can make a bloody sculpture out of it. That’s how many bloody times I’ve seen it.”
She also urged Americans to ‘pull back on it’ and ‘stay humble.’
Her video quickly went viral and received strong reactions people in the US.
One person commented: “Go back to Australia.”
Another wrote: “Gee…I wonder why so many US flags in the US. You can always stay in Australia.”
A third said: “If you don’t want to see American flags, don’t come to America.”
Someone else added: “To be completely honest, that was a culture shock for me too when I first visited. I do LOVE the patriotism you guys have and haven’t seen it in many other countries.”
One American seemed to have Mia’s back, commenting: “As an American it’s a little weird. She’s totally correct. It’s not just like in front of schools and government buildings, it’s like a pattern on tee shirts and beer bottles. Brits do this also, they put the union jack on everything.”
